AI-Generated Feedback in Islamic EFL Writing: Pedagogical and Conceptual Framework

This book has been designed to identify how artificial intelligence (AI) may assist in providing constructive feedback for students who are developing their academic writing skills through the medium of English as a foreign language (EFL) within higher education. By using both learning theory and the TPACK model, this book provides an innovative way of viewing how Large Language Models (LLMs) could be used to support the development of student writing through a dialogical and formative method of feedback. In addition to examining the potential benefits and limitations of using AI generated feedback, this book emphasizes that AI should function primarily as an augmentative technology, and not as a substitute for human feedback. Another significant contribution made by this book is its emphasis upon the potential applications of AI in Islamic Higher Education institutions. Specifically, the authors argue that the use of AI in educational settings should be based on ethics and values, such as those found in Islamic Higher Education. Lastly, the authors provide a comprehensive model, which was developed to assist teachers in implementing AI based systems to deliver constructive feedback in ways that are responsible and pedagogically sound.
